Sehr geehrter Fragesteller,
Ihre Anfrage möchte ich Ihnen auf Grundlage der angegebenen Informationen verbindlich wie folgt beantworten:
well it depends. If the residence permits states something to the effect that it becomes invalid if you interrupt your studies, then you have a big problem. Then you cannot return without a visa, since your residence permit is not valid even if the expiration date is not reached.
It should read something like "erlischt mit Exmatrikulation".
If not, then you should clear the situation with the immigration office before you re enroll. Usually they can make a problem of it, since it undermines the likelihood of finishing the MA on a reasonable time.

Thank you very much for your answer. For clarification, this is what's written on my permit: "Nur gütlig zum Studium, Fachrichtung [name of MA program]. Beschäftigung für insgesamt 120 Tage oder halbe Tage im Jahr sowie Praktika gem. 2ab. 1 BeschV und Ausübung einer studentischen Nebentätigkeit erlaubt."
In this case, would it be a stronger case if I speak to them when i am already enrolled. Regarding your point of period, my extension for my studies will not take longer than a year so it will remain within the legal 2 year time frame for student resident permit. Would this still be a problem?
and also, do I need to go the authorities where they issued me the permit originally or the authorities of where I registered my address and live?
Thanks again for your helpful advice..
Yr Permit shouldn´t expire automatically.
You have to go to the new immigration office where you live now.
There is no 2 years frame for student, I don´t know why you think that. But I assume in your case it won´t be a problem getting a renewal, given the facts you mention.
Good luck
